Two-day National Conference on Special Concrete held at VIT
A two-day National Conference on Special Concrete began at Vellore Institute of Technology.
Organised by the School of Civil Engineering, the two-day national event was inaugurated by L.K.Mishra Professor of Civil Engineering at Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad.
The inaugural function of the conference was held at Rajaji Hall and experts from the field of architecture and construction, civil engineering, academicians, masons and assistants from all over India took part.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Mishra said that civil engineering reflected the growth in development of culture and civilisation apart from science and technology. The raw materials used in construction industry form the basis for comfort of people.
Cement Concrete, he said, was an invaluable resource raw material and India stood second in the manufacture of cement in the whole world. At the same time, it must be noted that in addition to cement, the use of flyash as an alternative to cement has also begun. Professor Mishra said that modern, special concrete has started to be used in construction technology. The study of Civil Engineering played a crucial role in construction activity. Civil Engineering graduates should strive towards innovative use of raw materials in cement used for construction.
Anil Kumar Pillai, Senior Deputy General Manager and Head, Technical Services, Ramco Cement was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. S.K.Sekar, Dean, School of Civil Engineering, welcomed the gathering. Among others who were present on the occasion included M.Umashankar and A.Sofi, joint convenors of the Conference and A.Punitha Kumar and S.Bala Murugan of the School of Civil Engineering. T.Shanmuga Priya, Conference Coordinator, delivered a vote of thanks.
