Dean's Message

The School of Bio Sciences and Technology (SBST) at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is a renowned academic institution that offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs in biological sciences. Established in 2001, SBST has been at the forefront of biological research and education, providing students with a strong foundation to pursue successful careers in biotechnology, pharmaceutical sciences, healthcare, and related fields.

The School offers one undergraduate (B.Tech in Biotechnology), four postgraduate (M.Sc. and M. Tech.) programs, two integrated M.Sc. programs (Biotechnology and Food Sciences and Technology), Integrated Ph.D., and Ph.D. for external and internal (VITREE qualified) students. These programs equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and practical experience to excel in their chosen fields.

As part of a bilateral initiative between France and India, SBST-VIT is leading an Indian consortium to partner with a consortium of French universities led by the University of La Réunion. This partnership offers a twining (joint) M.Sc. biotechnology program with two specializations: 'Phytomedicine and Phytotherapy' and 'Artificial Intelligence applied to biomedical data'.

In addition, SBST is associated with VIT's major research centers, the Centre for Bio Separation Technology (CBST) and the Centre for Nanobiotechnology (CNBT), and has dedicated faculty members who ignite young minds.

SBST boasts world-class infrastructure and laboratories, providing students with cutting-edge equipment and resources. These facilities include molecular biology laboratories, cell biology laboratories, microbiology laboratories, biochemistry laboratories, animal house facilities, high-performance computation, scanning electron microscopy, etc.

SBST is home to a team of experienced and dedicated faculty members who are experts in their respective fields. They are committed to providing quality education and mentorship to students, fostering a stimulating and supportive learning environment.
