CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATED AT VIT
Both Chinese and Indian students at VIT, fusing the cultures of the 2 great nations staged a memorable cross-cultural show at the Spring festival organised to usher in the Chinese New year on 18 feb’15. The celebrations kick-started with interesting shows which were a perfect blend of native and western music and dances to mesmerise the audience. The event was jointly organised by the Chinese Learning Centre (CLC) and the office of international relations. Around 500 Chinese students are studying different undergrad courses in VIT and this seems to be the perfect occasion for them to illustrate and glorify their culture . Jiang Hanlin and Li Wei performed a traditional sword dance ,depicting martial arts with the theme of ‘secularism’ which was well-received by the audience. Liu chenshu received a round of applause for her scintillating flute rendition. Li wei’s break dance reminded everyone of the great MICHAEL Jackson. At the end of each performance, students presented their teachers with surprise gifts to honor them.
To sum up , The festival was a fun and enriching experience .
