Center of Excellence for Autonomous Vehicle Research
Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in collaboration with State University of New York, Binghamton USA is setting up Center of Excellence for Autonomous Vehicle Research at VIT.
Dr. G. Viswanathan, Chancellor, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) said that VIT and State University of New York, Binghamton USA will establish world class autonomous and intelligent driving system with the state-of-the art facilities to meet the critical challenges.
Addressing a press conference at VIT, Vellore on July 18, 2019 (Thursday), Dr. G. Viswanathan informed that VIT and Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science of State University of New York, (SUNY), Binghamton USA, signed an agreement that will lead to a 3.5+1.5 year programme (on credit transfer mode) where the students of VIT will earn a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree from VIT and a Master of Science (MS) degree from Binghamton.
Professor Krishnaswami Srihari, Executive Vice Provost for International Initiatives and Global Officer said that VIT and Watson School of SUNY Binghamton had over 9 years of association and this partnership helped in organizing joint conferences, student and faculty mobility and collaborated on research and established international Transfer 2+2 degree programs ( two years at VIT and two years at Binghamton). Watson school will support VIT in future research collaborations to develop technology for autonomous vehicles.
Mr. Sankar Viswanathan, Vice President, VIT said that both the institutions would focus on cooperative autonomous driving system, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), cooperation & coordination, human factors, verification & validation and autonomous robotics.
Dr G. Viswanathan, Chancellor of VIT and Dr Donald Nieman, the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost signed the agreement on June 24th 2019 during Dr.G. Viswanathan’s visit to Binghamton University.
